“I Failed. So What?”

Life is never a bed of roses. The people presented in the video below had all brace up to great adversity with their persistence and courage to accomplish immense success to become legends in their own right.

There’s a lot you can learn from these great people. Go ahead and watch it.

“I failed, so what?” is what I believe to be their motto in life.

Everyone fails. The difference between you and the really rich and successful people is that they don’t regard ‘failure’ as failure. They see ‘failures’ as learning experiences and ‘failures’ are necessary as the way to learn and grow. Therefore, they try more often and they fail more often.

There’s a Chinese saying: “Failure is the mother of success.” But the truth is, most people can’t handle failures.

When most people fail, they stop progressing. They stop taking actions. They simply can’t bear the pain and humiliation of failure that they retreat back to their comfort zone, leading their mediocre life once again.

This is why success is so rare and it’s meant only for people who understand what failure really mean and how failure can actually help them achieve success.

You cannot just know ‘failure’. You need to understand ‘failure’ because knowing without understanding does not allow you to learn, grow and move on.

So what exactly is ‘failure’?

Before I answer that question, you first need to know what ‘failure’ is not. ‘Failure’ is not a loss. ‘Failure’ is not a defeat. ‘Failure’ is not a taboo. ‘Failure’ is not fatal. And ‘failure’ is certainly not the end.

Instead, ‘failure’ is a learning process. ‘Failure’ is a stepping-stone to success. ‘Failure’ is a great teacher. ‘Failure’ is a transition. ‘Failure’ is a fact of life.

Of course, ‘failure’ is no fun. It’s utterly bitter. However, it is absolutely necessary as a driving force to push you out of your comfort zone to try new things that can lead you to new opportunities.

That is why you need to embrace your failure when you encounter one to lead you forward and change for the better.

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently” – Henry Ford

“People fail forward to success.” – Mary Kay Ash

So fail as fast as you can and learn what works, and then keep doing it. Failure is the key to your success.

I can’t say that I’ve experienced major failures in my life, but as a real estate agent, I have faced umpteen rejections and had deals slipped through my fingers when they were just within grasp.

It’s not a good feeling being rejected again and again. And it’s even more frustrating to have your deal fell through when you thought you almost had the commission in your pocket.

Such incidents are pretty common in our industry. It’s probably pretty common in any industry. But you have to have been through it personally to know how it tastes. It sure stinks.

Nevertheless, it’s something real estate agents, or any person involved in any kind of deal making have to go through in their professional life.

But I have since come to appreciate these setbacks and failures, though they can still taste disturbingly awful.

These experiences have taught me a great deal of the potential pitfalls in deal making. And I believe these lessons will serve me well and enhance my chances of clinching bigger deals in the later part of my life when I become a true blue entrepreneur.

One word of caution though… Failure does cost you money and time. So do your best to fail with as little money and time as possible so that when you finally find the one thing that works, you’ll have the money and time to work on it.

Cheers~
