Is This The Way To The 4-Hour Workweek?

More American Workers Outsourcing Own Jobs Overseas

A friend recently emailed me the above video clip and I had a good laugh over it. This is a short clip produced by The Onion, a Peabody Award-winning American “fake news” organisation that features satirical articles reporting on international, national, and local news as well as an entertainment newspaper and website known as The A.V. Club.

Although this good humoured production is entirely satirical in nature, it does provide a glimpse of the possibility of achieving The 4-Hour Workweek that’s been the rage over the past 2 years and it also gives us some food for thought on how to escape the 9-5 corporate prisoner lifestyle.

Go ahead, watch it, if you haven’t already done so. I promise you’ll have a hell of a good laugh.

Oh… And don’t forget to let me know what you think of the early retirement possibility in the comment section below. :)

Cheers~

Oh my god, this is HILARIOUS. I got such a kick out of this. Thanks so much for posting it. As for the serious idea of the 4-hour work week, I love it. On average I probably do a few hours of work a day and I spend the rest of the time reading, writing, blogging, etc. I would LOVE to be able to do all of my work in the morning and then go home and do what I love to do.

Nice. I’ve read the 4 hour work week and have actually considered outsourcing, would make my life easier ^^

@Positively Present – Yeah, I had a good laugh too when I first watched the clip. I love the idea of the 4-hour workweek too. Who dosen’t anyway? It’s great you’re already doing the 4-hour workday! I’m sure the 4-hour workweek goal will not be too distant for you. :)

@Craig – You definitely should outsource and especially more so if you’re running your own business.

    Cheers~

The video is hilarious!!! Thanks so much for sharing! I never thought of this before, but I guess it can be possible for corporate employees to outsource their own work (though not for those who have strong ownership over what they do; it probably applies to lower-level work). Personally, I don’t really have any thoughts or desires towards early retirement since I love what I do too much to want to stop doing it.

    Hi Celes,

Yeah, I love their wicked sense of humour. I have to take my hats off the Americans for being so creative. Although it is only meant to be a joke, it could be how the future is going to turn out!

Ditto. I don’t really plan for retirement. To me, retirement has a negative connotation. I prefer to plan how to develop a soaring business from doing what I love to do and carry on doing for as long as I’m alive. I think that’d be more fulfilling both personally and professionally.

    Cheers~

    Hi Mark,

This was so funny but unfortunately it is true. Many of the xrays that are done in some hospitals in America are sent to doctors outside of America who read the xrays and write the reports. More and more companies are doing this as are some law firms. It is a big topic of concern at huge corporations because they are losing contracts to such outsourcing businesses.

    Hope all is awesome! :)

Hi Nadia! Welcome to The Big Dreamer! :D

Wow… I know that outsourcing has become very common in this modern day of the business world, but I didn’t know it’s become that prevalent. Perhaps what was shown in this clip could become a reality in the not so distant future after all.

    Cheers~

    Hi Mark, thanks for sharing.

Outsourcing actually helps to elevate “poverty” in some ways.

This somehow leads to balancing of resources around the world.

Currently, it seems to be a Win-Win situation.

Can you think of any negative impact?

    Hi Louis,

I think there’re many benefits to outsourcing for a business or even for an individual. But it may take a lot of trial and errors to finally find the right outsourced people. And if you outsource to the wrong person, it may cause you more trouble than if you do it yourself. Nevertheless, I still think it’s worth giving it a shot.

    Cheers~
